Indianapolis man arrested after deadly shooting in Coke Lot near IMS

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) – Police have arrested a man on a preliminary murder charge after a deadly shooting at the Coke Lot, next to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, early Saturday morning.

Officers were called to Lot 1-C, in the area of W. 30th and Georgetown Road, after people reported shots being fired. Levine was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speedway police said Avory Johnson, 19, of Indianapolis, was arrested for murder and sent to the Marion County Adult Processing Center on Saturday.

According to police, Johnson shot Max Levine, 25, of Kokomo, shortly after 2 a.m. Saturday.

A K-9 unit was called to the scene to help Speedway police search for a possible weapon.

Police did not release any information about what led to the shooting.

The last shooting incident at the speedway was in 2012.
