LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – It was an annual Memorial Day tradition at Riehle Plaza in downtown Lafayette Monday.
Hundreds came to the free Memorial Day Concert by the Lafayette Citizens Band.
“We play here every summer every Thursday at 7:30, except for the last one,” said percussionist Pam Nave.
“We rehearse Wednesday night, the night before for a couple hours. We get our music we sight read. We go through it, we rehearse it, and boom we’re ready to go,” said Nave. “We have a lot of great musicians in this group. Community band directors and community leaders from all over, even outside of Tippecanoe County, and we put it together in one rehearsal.”
Nave has been playing in Lafayette Citizens Band for 14 years. She said the big reason she plays is for the community.
“There is a lot of places to play here, and I play here for those people in those chairs right over there,” said Nave. “We have a lot of people in this band that have been doing this for 25 to 30 years, so it’s a community for us and a community for them.”
