TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — A team from Harrison High School is putting knowledge to the test. Harrison’s Quiz Bowl team is heading to Washington, D.C. to compete against schools from across the country.
Twenty-one students will compete in the varsity and junior varsity divisions. The teams will test their knowledge in subjects ranging from math to geography.
The students have been hard at work practicing since the beginning of the school year.
“Our varsity squad works really well together. We basically have all the bases covered, as a unit,” said team member Shelby Meyer. “I’m hoping that we’ll do really well this year, and we’ll be able to pull all the wins out.”
Senior David Beardmore said being on the team teaches him more than just facts.
“It’s just a great opportunity to learn new things and meet new people,” expressed Beardmore. “Especially with a school as big as Harrison, a lot of the time you don’t get to meet people who are in different grades. This kind of helps bridge the age gap.”
If the team does well, they will qualify for finals in Chicago on June 9. Last year, the junior varsity team placed second in the finals.
