New ‘Art in the Park’ series kicks off season

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Wednesday evening’s rain showers didn’t stop people from enjoying the first Art in the Park event.

This new summer series brings together a variety of artists, musicians and food vendors at Memorial Island within Columbian Park. Organizers with the Lafayette Parks Department said it’s important for people to get out and see what the parks have to offer.

“The parks department has been going through a lot of change recently. We wanted to bring some new programs to the community. Get people out here using Memorial Island because it’s such a great resource. We just wanted to bring some diversity of arts and culture up here to the park,” said Alexandra DeWitt, support services coordinator.

Art in the Park, which is the music and art series, will take place every other Wednesday night through August. Then the last Friday of each month will be art education and movie nights. The park will host arts and crafts and a free kids movie night at Memorial Island.
