Sheriff’s Office fries up 1,500 pounds of fish for American Red Cross

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Classic cars, baked goods, and pounds and pounds of deep-fried fish made up the 9th annual Fish Fry and Car Show for the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office.

All proceeds from the event are donated to the American Red Cross. Sheriff Tracy Brown said the American Red Cross not only helps with disaster relief for citizens in need, but the organization helps law enforcement officers and firefighters as well.

“If we show up and we’re on the scene for a number of hours or days, they provide relief to us as well. They’re one of our partners,” Brown said. “They receive no federal funding, they’re chartered federally, but they live on local dollars generated through events like this.”

Brown said during the event, 1,500 pounds of fish are fried up and 33 five-gallon drums of oil are used. He said the goal is to feed 2,000 people.

Brown said this year’s turnout was the largest turnout he’s ever seen.
