LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – On Saturday afternoon, friends and family of Mary Alice Brooks and William Chadwell gathered to watch the couple tie the knot.
For Brooks, it’s a day she never thought would happen.
“I’ve been single for over 36 years and never planned to marry again. Then he came in,” said Brooks.
Brooks, 71, and Chadwell, 72, met at a long-term care facility in Lafayette. Chadwell eventually moved to Digby Place, but Brooks’ daughter Melinda Platt said the couple still stayed in contact.
“They started talking and texting each other. It was really kind of cute,” said Platt.
Brooks moved to Digby place and a few months later Chadwell popped the question.
“I just asked her if she wanted to marry me,” said Chadwell.
“I said, ‘Yeah, I would eventually,'” added Brooks.
Three months later, the couple is now husband and wife.
“To see them sharing the rest of their lives together, it’s awesome,” said Platt.
As the newlywed couple celebrates, it’s hard to deny the love they have for each other.
“I feel very, very happy and fortunate to have found a good person like him,” said Brooks.
“I just want to tell her I love her. That’s all,” added Chadwell.
