INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police said a 79-year-old man was killed after three men in a stolen car crashed into his car during a chase just west of downtown.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials said the crash happened around 10:20 Sunday morning at West 16th Street and East Riverside Drive.

According to police, Eskenazi Health security tried to stop a Toyota Camry, which matched the description of a car that was reported stolen earlier Sunday morning. The driver refused to stop and led security on a three-block chase west on 16th Street.

The chase ended when the suspect vehicle crashed into the victim’s car in the intersection of Riverside Drive.

The driver of the stolen car ran from the scene toward a nearby golf course, but he was quickly arrested. He was taken to Eskenazi for injuries he sustained from the crash and when he was bitten by a K9, according to IMPD. Police said the driver was in stable condition as of Sunday afternoon.

Two other men in the car, a 20-year-old and a 19-year-old, were also arrested. The age of the driver was not yet released as of Sunday afternoon.

IMPD detectives said they found a gun at the crash scene.

Police have not yet released the identity of the victim, pending the notification of his family.

Investigators have also not yet identified the suspects or commented on what charges the suspects will face.

IMPD said the crash remains under investigation.
