WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – After pitching their way through sectional play with three straight wins the Raiders get a rematch with the Hamilton Southeastern Royals.
Harrison and HSE met in last year’s regional on the Royals’ home field. The Raiders beat a second ranked Royals team 4-3.
The roles are reversed this time around. Harrison is ranked second in the state and the Royals are looking for revenge. Senior Kaitlyn Carnahan says their recent history with HSE can be a positive and a negative.
“That definitely gives us an edge, but it does make me nervous that we will come out over confident, and we won’t be ready to hit them because I know that we were in the same position as them last year. They were second in the state. They had a lot of wins under their belt, and I really think that talking with my team that we’re ready to come out and do what we need to do and play our game and not take it for granted that we have beat them the last couple times,” said Carnahan.
Harrison head coach Dick Mitchell isn’t taking anything for granted against a team he considers equally as good.
“The main concern is they’re a quality team. They have very good players, very well coached. They play a tough level of competition, just like us. So just going up against a really good team is the concern we have, not that we’ve beat them twice in a row. And we’ve done a really good job of taking it one game at a time all season long. It’s just going to be a really tremendous game,” said Mitchell.
