LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Columbian Park Zoo joins a national event celebrating World Ocean Day — a day to support clean energy, trash free oceans and wildlife conservation.
Columbian Park Zoo will join hundreds of organizations across the globe on Saturday, June 8 to honor World Oceans Day. From noon to 4 p.m., the Columbian Park Zoo will host various free games and activities to teach the importance of taking care of the world’s oceans.
Some of the family-friendly activities include participating in experiments to test ocean acidification, showing how greenhouse gasses increase CO2 levels in the ocean, and learning to pack an ocean-friendly lunch.
“Water covers more than 70% of the Earth’s surface,” coordinator Amber Frederick told News 18 in a release. “Because all water is interconnected, even those of us not along the coast still need to take ocean conservation seriously.”
