WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) – The Big Ten Conference and Atlantic Coast Conference announced the women’s basketball matchups for the 2014 ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Wednesday, unveiling a Wednesday, Dec. 3 matchup between Purdue and Florida State. The meeting will be the first in the event’s history between the Boilermakers and Seminoles, and just the second contest between the two schools in program history.

“We’re excited about our matchup for this year’s Challenge,” said Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp. “We’re thrilled to be at home and it’s great to have the opportunity to face a quality opponent in Florida State that our fans will be excited about and provide a great game in Mackey Arena.”

The Boilermakers have had a tough run in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, drawing six ranked opponents, including four top-10 teams, and going 1-6. Purdue’s lone win came in 2012 against Georgia Tech in Mackey Arena as topped the Yellow Jackets, 85-73, behind a 19-point, 10-assist double-double by KK Houser.

Florida State finished 21-12 in 2013-14, reaching the second round of the NCAA Tournament after receiving an at-large bid. Head coach Sue Semrau returns nine players from last year’s squad, most notably graduating standout Natasha Howard. Rising junior Morgan Jones is the Seminoles leading returning scorer at 11.9 points per game.

The only meeting between Purdue and Florida State came in 1981, as the Seminoles took a 65-39 victory in Mackey Arena as part of the Boilermaker Premiere preseason tournament. This game marks the 17th home game schedule for Purdue’s 2014-15 season, which opens with an exhibition contest on Nov. 9 against Findlay University.
