WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The McCutcheon baseball team is busy preparing for this week’s Class 4A Lafayette Regional.
Head coach Jake Burton and company will face Fort Wayne Carroll on Saturday morning at Loeb Stadium.
“We’re going to have to get after it out there on the mound with our pitchers, and defensively we’re going to have to make plays. And we’re going to have to scratch for a run or two here or there. And we know that, and we know that going in so we’ve been working on that, that’s what we’ve been trying to gear ourselves up for Saturday,” said Burton.
The Mavericks are familiar with playing this time of year, having played in the Lafayette Regional two years ago when the Mavs were eliminated by Fort Wayne South Side.
“When we lost in the regional, we kind of got lackadaisical, and this year since we’ve learned from that mistake we just have to keep the intensity up through our practices,” said senior Jordan Young.
This group of Mavericks understand what it will take to win the programs first regional title since 2008.
“It’s similar to what we’ve seen. We’re in a tough conference, so we know what it’s like to face good pitching. We just have to choke up on the bat and move the ball,” said senior Myles Hann.
