Lafayette Fire Department swears in six recruits

Lafayette Fire Department Firefighter Recruit Sworn In

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Six new recruits joined the Lafayette Fire Department Thursday evening.

The recruits were part of a group of 100 who applied for a position over the winter. They trained for the last 16 weeks, learning everything from fire patterns to strategies for vehicle extraction.

Lafayette native David Rose served in the military prior to joining the department. He said it was a natural progression for him to take a position serving his local community.

“One of the greatest honors you can have is to be born and raised in the city and come back and serve the community you grew up in as a firefighter,” said Rose.

The new firefighters got their station assignments and were assigned their shifts after the ceremony. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
