WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – If a move to Class 2A for the Central Catholic baseball team was supposed to make advancing in the state tournament harder, you wouldn’t know it.
The Knights steamrolled their way through the Delphi sectional. CC outscored its opponents a combined 33-1 on the way to the title. So far, so good for the Knights in Class 2A.
But aside from moving up a class, this year marks the first time the Knights have had to play a regional away from Gordon Leming Field since 2009.
Now, coach Tim Bordenet’s bunch have to hit the road for Whiting — where Hammond Bishop Noll awaits.
“Our kids just go out and compete, and really it doesn’t matter if we are 1A or 2A. We play a great schedule during the season, so we know when we get to tournament time we are going to be prepared to play against anybody. I was really happy with the way we played in the sectional and hopefully it will carry over this week,” said Bordenet.
Central Catholic senior Evan Kennedy looks at the trip to Oil City Stadium as a business trip, the same approach the Knights always use this time of year.
“We’re going to take it like any other game, we are going to prepare like we’ve been preparing all year. We’ve just been taking cuts and getting ready for the pitcher we are about to see, so we are just going to take it like a business trip. I think it’s definitely going to be a challenge going on the road. It’s a challenge we’ve all been looking forward to all year. We’ve known all year that it wasn’t going to be here. We’ve been preparing all year for it,” said Kennedy.
