Frankfort Strawberry Festival raises money for senior citizens

FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) – The 27th annual Strawberry Festival took place in Frankfort on Friday.

The festival was a fundraiser for the Paul Phillippe Resource Center.

An estimated 600 guests came throughout the day, with the hope that it raises $5,000 for the senior living center. Some of the funds go toward Frankfort’s public transportation.

Organizers said the festival means a lot more than money to the residents of the senior centers.

“For a lot of them, it’s the only family that they have. We have a lot of individuals that have either lost their spouses or just come here for the fellowship, friendships — get to be with people. So, it’s really important to them,” said executive director Dawn Layton.

The Strawberry Festival began at 11:30 a.m. Friday and finished around 7 p.m.
