Five teens were swimming in the water and one was swept over the dam on Friday. Two of the teens were rescued by passersby.

Police said Jason K. Moran, 17, Sarah Mae Mclevish, 16, Michael Chadbourne, 16, Trent Crabb, 17, and Mark Nally, 18, all of Franklin, were the teens swimming in the Big Blue River.

Rescue workers combed the river all day Friday and Saturday, but say high water levels have made it difficult to get close to the dam. Officials were hopeful that conditions on Sunday would allow them to search  for Moran in the area near the dam.

The teams switched to recovery mode Friday afternoon, meaning they didn’t believe Moran was alive.

All of the teens involved in this incident went to Franklin Community High School.

Students showed their support by posting photos and words of encouragement to social media during the search efforts.
