New park construction gets a slow start

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Work is moving forward on a park on the south side of Lafayette.

The Subaru South Tipp Park, on the corner of Third and Fountain streets, is being completely redone.

Construction began in March, but poor weather has slowed progress. Lafayette Parks superintendent Claudine Laufman said the park will start taking shape after crews put in drainage pipes and concrete is poured.

Laufman said the new park will be a fresh start for those in the neighborhood.

“I know how much this neighborhood appreciates it. I think it really brings a lot of value to this particular neighborhood. We’re really pleased to have that partnership in place,” said Laufman.

Along with new playground equipment, a new shelter is planned for the park. The project was slated to be finished by the end of the summer, but Laufman said construction may go into early fall. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
