MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a Muncie man to nine years in prison for badly injuring his infant son.

Twenty-two-year-old Steven Edward Jones told a Delaware County judge on Monday he made a mistake that could have cost his son’s life.

The Star Press reports the child suffered skull and rib fractures, brain bleeding, facial bruising and a mouth injury in October 2012. Officials say medical attention wasn’t sought until the boy’s mother returned home and saw he was vomiting blood.

Jones pleaded guilty to a felony charge of child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury.

Defense attorney Jacob Dunnuck says the child is now doing well. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
