CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — A large food distribution center is coming to Clinton County bringing more than 200 jobs.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held to welcome ConAgra Foods, just west of Frankfort, Ind.

ConAgra Foods brands include Chef Boyardee, Healthy Choice and Slim Jims.

The 1.6 million-square-foot facility will be a depot for products before they are sent to grocery stores.

Frankfort Mayor Chris McBarnes said the city and the county were in talks with ConAgra for about a year. He says this is just the first step in bringing more businesses to the area.

“This didn’t happen by coincidence. We’ve been strategically laying the foundation when it comes to work force development, low-cost and reliable utilities,” McBarnes said. “Leveraging our key Interstate 65 access. Today, truly all those things come together and we get this.”

“We’ve come to really recognize the local officials for wanting to grow and be a partner,” agreed Bob Masching with ConAgra Foods. “The great work force and the assets in this community, the county, and the state have to offer to ConAgra Foods.”

As a symbol of partnership, McBarnes presented ConAgra with a Frankfort city flag.

The facility is slated to be finished by August 2015.
