FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) — The Franklin community will remember 17-year-old Jason Moran at a memorial service Wednesday, after he died trying to save his friend in the Big Blue River.

Public visitation will be at Franklin Community High School’s gymnasium Wednesday from 1-7 p.m., followed by a service from 7-8 p.m.

Friday, Jason Moran, Michael Chadbourne, Trent Crabb, Mark Nally and Sarah McLevish were swimming in the Big Blue River when McLevish somehow went over the dam. All four boys tried to save McLevish.

Crabb and Nally made it out safely, and were able to help McLevish and Chadbourne out of the water. McLevish and Chadbourne were taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition. Moran’s body was found in the river on Sunday. Officials say Chadbourne passed away early Wednesday morning. His organs are being donated.

McLevish is still in critical condition at Methodist. Her mother posted in a public Facebook forum Wednesday morning saying there has been no change in her condition.

Several people have launched fundraisers to support all five families involved. There are several keychains, bracelets and t-shirts for sale, with various “Franklin Strong” messages on them. Proceeds are going to the families to cover medical and funeral expenses.

Anyone wanting to contribute to the five families involved in this incident can do so in an account at Heartland Community Bank that was set up by Franklin Community High School. There is also a GoFundMe account for Michael Chadbourne and an account set up at Mutual Savings Bank for Jason Moran’s family.
