TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) – The official price tag for repairing the tornado damage at Mintonye Elementary School stands at $3.3 million.

The Tippecanoe School Corporation School Board approved four change orders from the contractor Wednesday evening, totaling more than $2 million.

With work continuing on both the water system and sewage plant, TSC Chief Financial Officer Kim Fox expects there could be a few more bills in the future. But she believes, the latest orders should be the bulk of the cost.

Insurance is expected to pick up more than 90 percent of the tab.

“This is no surprise to us to do this today,” said Fox. “Some of the things we have found along the way we’ve just had to deal with as we go. We don’t want anything to halt the process. We speak with the insurance company once a week.”

Wednesday also marked the last official day that TSC was at First Assembly Community Ministries. The last of the cleaning supplies were moved out after custodial staff cleaned the parts of the building that TSC used. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
