TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — A Lafayette woman is charged with welfare fraud and theft.

Investigators said Yoko Sexton-Harris, 36, was charged with four felonies after receiving more than $10,000 in benefits that she was not eligible to receive.

According to investigators, Sexton-Harris failed to state that she was married and that she had hidden her husband’s name on a copy of their lease. They said that her husband’s income and his unemployment benefits from Illinois were also not reported.

Investigators allege that the fraud took place over a period of 13 months in 2012 into early 2013.

Sexton Harris now faces four felony counts for welfare fraud and theft.
