TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – The 28th annual Area IV Senior Games held its closing ceremony Friday morning. More than 600 athletes took part in the week-long olympic-style event.
Seniors from Tippecanoe and the surrounding counties ran, jumped and swam all in the name of staying active. The ceremony took place at The Trails Banquet hall near Battle Ground.
Awards for most medals won, and the oldest participant were two of the trophies given out. Also, a ceremonial torch was lit and carried around the room.
“The games are a lot of fun because you meet a lot of people. If you participate for more than one year, you see the same people year after year. It’s just a lot of fun,” said athlete Joe Fletcher.
“I used to walk an awful lot and I still try to with my walker. That’s the way you stay active. If you sit down, that’s it, you know,” said athlete Annie Van Der Aa.
The Area IV Senior Games is the largest in Indiana.
