WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — In honor of Flag Day on Saturday, Westminster Village held a ceremony for veterans and residents a day early.

Flag Day may not be until Saturday, but more than 50 residents attended Friday morning’s celebration. World War II and Korean War veterans spoke about what it means to be a veteran. They also talked about their war experiences and their honor flight trip to Washington, D.C.

World War II veteran Eldon Hood said the event was special to him.

“This is my first occasion to be a part of it, but it brings back a lot of memories,” Hood said. “In total, it was something — truly something — to be recognized.”

The ceremony concluded with a prayer and song.

The Indiana Veterans home will hold its own celebration Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
