Free lunches for kids at Monticello City Park

MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) – Kids in Monticello will be getting free breakfast and lunch all summer long thanks to Area IV Head Start day care.

Area IV has teamed up with Food Finders Food Bank to prepare free hot and cold meals for children ages 18 and under during their summer vacation.

The Monday through Friday program began on June 2 and will go on until Aug. 1 at the Anheier building in the Monticello City Park. Breakfast is served from 9-9:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 11:45 a.m until 12:45 p.m.

“I enjoy seeing the smiles on their faces when they’re eating. I enjoy the hugs they give me when they’re leaving and they’ve been very, very good about coming up to us and telling us all ‘thank you’ for being here, and providing food and coming in to visit us. It’s been great,” said nutrition coordinator Lori Mitchell.

Mitchell said the program serves about 40 kids each day.
