TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Bobby Egan, John Holt, Schuyler Putt, Francois Dior and Alex Mason are all members of White Vinyl Sky.
The band is going to help kick off this year’s Taste of Tippecanoe. The five-man rock group hails from West Lafayette. They came to be in 2011 when Alex and Bobby met at Purdue.
John, Schuyler and Francois are recent additions to the group, and things are meshing quite nicely.
“Since college bands are so transient and everybody moves on we have had our guitarist most recently leave,” said Egan. “So, Francois is filling in for him. Paul, our alto saxophone player, is in Colombia right now, so John Holt is filling in for him for the Taste.”
The guys aren’t strangers to the stage. They play local shows at venues such as Hunter’s Pub and the Knickerbocker. They’ve even traveled to Chicago opening for larger bands such as Carolina Liar.
Even with the little time that they have had to prepare, the band is excited to play on such a large stage.
“Probably the biggest stage we’ve played,” said Egan.
“Yeah the stages are impressive,” said Mason. “They’re huge.”
“The sound crew having it together which is always a bonus too,” said Egan. “I know they do a really good job. A lot of the venues we’ve played at before, we’ve had to run our own audio.”
Classifying themselves as bluesy rock, the band takes its inspiration from greats like Jack White of the White Stripes and from other bands like Mutemath and The Black Keys.
No matter who inspires them to play, they said it will be a fun show.
“That’s one thing we always try to do is to be upbeat,” said Mason. “Energetic! Like energetic, upbeat, blues inspired rock.”
Coming off excitement of their first studio EP, the band is optimistic about their first Taste appearance. The band said they’d love for everyone to get to the Taste when it opens and be sure to check them out. They’ll be performing at 4 p.m.
