LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The 2015 Subaru Legacy rolled off the line at Subaru of Indiana Automotive Monday afternoon.
The Lafayette car manufacturer celebrated the start of production on the redesigned sedan. SIA unveiled the fifth generation Outback earlier this month.
Executive Vice President Tom Easterday says during the last five years, Outback sales have tripled and Legacy sales have doubled.
The new models come in the midst of a $420 million expansion at SIA to accommodate production of the Subaru Impreza starting in 2016.
“We’re hopeful that with growth in the Legacy and Outback sales. Because of the new models we’re launching — the Outback two weeks ago and the Legacy today — In addition to that, we’re hoping we get some possible new Subaru products in the future to go along with the Impreza, the Legacy and the Outback,” said Easterday.
Easterday said the expansion will allow the plant to increase production from 310,000 cars to 450,000.
