LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s race has another candidate on the ballot.
Chris Schiuszi has been approved to be on the November ballot as an Independent. Schiuszi received more than 730 verified signatures of registered voters within the county.
To be approved to enter the race, Schiuszi needed 699 verified signatures.
Board of Elections co-director Jared Bond said he can’t remember the last time a candidate ran for sheriff as an Independent. However, Bond said it isn’t unusual to see an Independent on the ballot.
“There are a few other requirements that it takes to run as an Independent candidate, such as these signatures, but Mr. Schuiszi has met that requirement for sheriff,” said Bond.
Schiuszi and Republican Barry Richard are currently the only names on the ballot.
Bond said candidates have until the end of next week to be approved for the ballot.
