WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A proposed adult daycare for one of West Lafayette’s busier intersections got a positive recommendation Wednesday night.
The Area Plan Commission gave unanimous approval for the rezoning request.
Plans call for the Joyful Journey facility to be at the northwest corner of Salisbury Street and Lindberg Road.
The daycare would both use the existing house, which is currently on site, as well as add on additional space to house up to 20 to 25 adults with Alzheimer’s, autism or other issues. So, their caregivers can go to work or run other errands.
“There is a huge need, and I think it’s a hidden need. We don’t always know who is caregiving, but there are a lot of caregivers who are out there,” said Joyful Journey President Cathy Benner.
The facility is proposed to only be open between 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Benner said there are too many unknowns to set a targeted opening date, but she believes it’s at least a year away.
The proposal now heads to the West Lafayette City Council for official approval.
