WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Heat is to blame for the string of power outages in West Lafayette over the past few days, officials said.

Duke Energy told News 18 that the warmer temperatures are likely the cause for unexpected failures in their mobile substation.

Crews have been rebuilding a transformer near the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Yeager Road over the past month.

Duke representatives said the mobile unit is designed to handle higher demands of power, but has not worked properly over the past week.

To prevent future problems, officials said crews are rerouting some of the power off the mobile substation and are also using fans to cool the unit.
