WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Former Purdue men’s basketball center JaJuan Johnson is changing teams overseas. Johnson is leaving his Italian team Pistoia for Turkish power Besiktas.

Besiktas announced that it signed Johnson and two other players on its website. Located in the country’s largest city, Istanbul, Besiktas has signed several well-known NBA players in recent years. Former Illinois star and three-time NBA All-Star Deron Williams suited up for the team during the NBA lockout.

Johnson averaged 14.6 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks last season in Italy.

The 2011 consensus All-American was selected 27th overall in the 2011 draft by the Nets. After a trade sent him to Boston, Johnson played one season for the Celtics (2011-12) averaging 3.2 points and 1.6 rebounds per game. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
