TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – The Fourth of July is just around the corner and firefighters are urging citizens to be careful when it comes to purchasing and shooting off fireworks.
Wabash Township firefighters said you should have a hose or water source nearby in case of an emergency. You should also not light off fireworks under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Kids under the age of 18 should be supervised by an adult when fireworks are being used.
Firefighters also said you should be cautious of where you buy your fireworks.
“When you go out and pick out fireworks make sure you go to an authorized vendor not anybody that is selling out of their backyard or anything like that. Make sure to buy ones that are suitable for your area, so if you have trees in your neighborhood don’t shoot the high aerial devices off,” Public Information Officer Kevin McCombs said.
Firefighters also encourage citizens to attend professional fireworks displays instead of launching fireworks on their own.
