TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — Harrison High School has named a new girls basketball head coach on Friday.
Jon Laird was announced by Harrison High School’s Athletic Department to be the new head girls basketball effective for the 2014-15 season. Laird replaces Jake Rettig who resigned at the end of May citing personal reasons and time commitment as factors that led to his decision.
Laird comes to Harrison after serving as the head girls basketball coach at North White High School for the past two seasons. He also coached at Frontier High School for two seasons and was an assistant baseball coach at Harrison.
Laird led his 2013-14 North White team to nine wins, which is the most at the school since the 2000-01 season.
Galema said Laird will establish a strong feeder program for the younger players in the Harrison school district. He said Laird will be a good leader for the Raiders with his quick paced offense and aggressive style of defense.
Harrison is looking forward to Jon’s focus on conditioning, fundamentals and team play, Galema said. He said Laird will make sure everyone in the program feels like they are important.
