Shelbyville fire crews battle large industrial fire

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – Fire crews were battling a large industrial fire early Friday at a wood treatment plant located on the northwest side of Shelbyville.

The fire is at the Culpeper Wood Preservers in the 700 block of West Mausoleum Road. The blaze was reported around 4:20 a.m.

The first crews on the scene reported heavy fire with flames through the roof. All off duty Shelbyville firefighters were called in to assist at the fire scene.

Fire crews were told to go to a defensive mode to battle the flames. No injuries had been reported.

From the Culpeper web site, the company describes themselves as one of the largest producers of pressure treated lumber in the United States.

They manufacture pressure treated products for residential, commercial, industrial and marine markets.  The Shelbyville plant is one of five plants the company operates.

Their other operations are located in Virginia, South Carolina and Maryland.
