LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A theft investigation has resulted in one employee being terminated at the Tippecanoe County Clerk’s Office.

Clerk Christa Coffey told News 18 she discovered the theft on June 3 after going through activity from June 2. After realizing the possible theft, Coffey said she went through May’s books and found similar activity.

Coffey said she traced the incidents back to one employee who she terminated. Indiana State Police is investigating.

Sgt. Kim Riley said he could not comment on an investigation that has not resulted in charges.

The State Board of Accounts is in charge of an audit of the office to see how much was stolen. Coffey said she does not know how long that audit should take.
