Dorner Park’s basketball court gets a major facelift

FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) – Basketball fans in Frankfort have a newly refurbished court to hone their skills.

The court at Dorner Park has been in bad shape for many years.

But thanks to fundraising efforts by a pair of residents Shaun Gephart and Kirk Castillo along with some help from the Frank board of works, the court has received a $25,000 facelift. The money has financed new fencing, pavement and goals.

“The backboards were falling apart the rims were falling down,” said Gephart. “We actually had a guy who’s out here right now who cut his head on the fence and had to get staples in his head.”

“The fences were damaged bad, people were cutting themselves on them,” said Castillo.

The two men are holding a 5-on-5 basketball tournament during the town’s annual hot dog festival next month.

Money from the tournament will go toward future maintenance of the court.
