MERRILLVILLE , Ind. (WLFI) – Monday night’s severe weather that swept through Northwest Indiana caused downed power lines on U.S. 30. Due to emergency repairs, INDOT will close U.S. 30 Wednesday night until Thursday morning.

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, U.S. 30 between Interstate 65 and U.S. 41 will close Thursday at 10 p.m. and reopen Thursday at 10 a.m. Due to Monday’s storm, there are downed power lines on U.S. 30 and multiple traffic signals have been permanently damaged along that stretch of roadway.

The overnight closure is necessary as crews replace traffic lights and repair downed power lines, INDOT officials said.

INDOT would like drivers to avoid that stretch of U.S. 30 until all lanes are reopened to traffic Thursday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
