MERRILLVILLE , Ind. (WLFI) – INDOT said the repairs of damaged power lines on U.S. 30 in Northwest Indiana are almost complete.

The Indiana Department of Transportation closed U.S. 30, between Interstate 65 and U.S. 41, Wednesday night into Thursday morning to make repairs to downed power lines and broken traffic signals due to Monday’s severe storms that swept through the region.

Officials with INDOT said work is mostly complete. NIPSCO repaired damaged power lines, which was completed much earlier than expected and did not adversely affect the power grid. Additionally, INDOT repaired traffic signals, which are back on and operational.

U.S. 30 has been reopened to traffic, except the intersection of U.S. 30 and Taft, also known as State Road 55. This intersection remains closed to all traffic at this time.

INDOT officials said the intersection of U.S. 30 and Taft will remain closed while INDOT crews replace the signal head. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
