BROOK, Ind. (WLFI) – Residents of Brook started off their holiday weekend with some exercise.

The 3rd Annual Independence Day 5K took place in Brook Friday.

The race cost $10, with all proceeds benefiting local youth sports.

Race organizer Eric Chapman said in Brook, the Fourth of July is always a day full of community activities.

“Brook is the place to be on the Fourth of July,” said Chapman. “We have softball tournaments, we have corn hole, they have a pork chop dinner, and then fireworks at dusk.”

Chapman said about 130 people showed up for this year’s 5K. He expects even more will participate next year.
