Free July Fourth cookout for local veterans

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Multiple veterans’ organizations came together Friday afternoon to offer free barbecue for local veterans.

The Tippecanoe Veterans Council’s Fourth of July barbecue began at one in the afternoon and was located in Columbian Park in Lafayette.

VFW Post 1154 Commander Jim Miller said the barbecue was a way to thank veterans for their service and to meet other veterans in the Lafayette area.

“Yeah, people are having a really good time,” said Miller, “We want them to enjoy themselves and look at what all the organizations might have for them.”

Organizations, like the Navy Club of Lafayette and Marine Corps League, are trying to get young veterans involved.
