Holiday travelers should expect more traffic than usual

TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) – Friday was a beautiful day to head out and celebrate the 4th of July, but if you were planning to travel over the weekend, AAA said you should expect many other drivers to be out too.

According to their website, AAA said more than eight in 10 Americans traveling this weekend will be doing so by automobile.

That’s about 34.8 million vehicles on the road, the highest level since 2007.

Indiana State Police Trooper Aaron Allen said there will not be increase in the number of patrols this weekend, but State Police will be on the look out for impaired drivers.

“We’re going to have troopers do their jobs as normal. We’re going to be on the interstate, as well as looking for impaired drivers, and different kinds of violations like that,” said Allen.

Allen said if you think you see and impaired driver on the interstate, call Indiana State Police.

Otherwise, call your local police department.
