Delphi celebrates during Canal Days Festival

DELPHI, Ind. (WLFI) – The community of Delphi celebrated the 4th of July weekend and their town’s history during the Canal Days Festival.

This is the 24th year for the festival, which highlights the history of Delphi.

Festival goers enjoyed live artisan demonstrations including blacksmiths and basket weaving.

Those in attendance also enjoyed food and could take a paddle boat on the canal.

Former Delphi resident John Nitcher said the festival shows attendees the importance of remembering  those who came before us.

“I think it’s wonderful to show the importance in how people lived 150 or 200 years ago,” said Nichter. “It gives the younger generations an idea of where we came from.”

If you didn’t make it to the Canal Day Festival Saturday, it will take place  from noon until 4.p.m. Sunday.
