Community says goodbye to Tipton Co. deputy

FLORA, Ind. (WLFI) – The Tipton County Deputy killed last weekend was laid to rest Monday.

The funeral for Deputy Jacob Calvin took place at Carroll High School in Flora at 11:00 a.m. Members of multiple law enforcement agencies, as well as friends and family members gathered to pay their respects to the fallen sheriff’s deputy.

Those who spoke at the funeral described Calvin as a selfless man who always put others first.

Monday, they said, was about celebrating Jacob’s life.

“I believe that Jake would ask two things from each of us,” said Pastor Woody Slade. “Say a prayer each night for those who are out there serving us. He would also want each one of us to take the opportunity to serve others around us.”

“If I know Jake, he’d prefer that we celebrate his life and remind us that he was living his dream and doing what he loves,” said Jacob’s best friend, Todd Price.

Deputy Calvin was laid to rest in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Flora. He always wanted to be a K- 9 Officer. In his honor, the family and Sheriff’s office set up a fund to buy a new police dog. To donate to the fund, you can send a check to the Tipton County Foundation on 1020 West Jefferson Street in Tipton, Indiana. In the memo line, write “Calvin K-9 Fund.”
