LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Lafayette police are investigating a shooting on the north side.
Investigators said the incident happened at 10:03 p.m. Monday at 622 N. 11th Street, near the intersection of 11th and Cincinnati. Police said three people were on the porch of a duplex when two people were shot.
The victims have been identified as 20-year-old Rodney Lloyd and 21-year-old Samuel Booker Jr.
LPD said Lloyd is recovering from a gunshot wound to his foot and went to Franciscan St. Elizabeth Central Hospital on his own. They said Booker was shot in the thigh and was taken to Franciscan St. Elizabeth East Hospital by ambulance.
They do not believe the victims’ injuries are life-threatening.
Lt. Tim Payne said police had to work quickly to get a handle on the situation.
“There were several people around the area. We had to quickly try and figure out who were our witnesses, possible victims or even possible suspects and kind of disperse the crowd. There was some arguing and that type of thing that was going on,” said Payne.
Neighbors told News 18 they heard the loud gun shots and immediately knew there was a shooting.
“I just hope that we can get this corrected and get this crime off the streets,” said Craig Shirley.
Payne said they are looking for two black men who were dressed in all black clothing. They are unsure about a possible motive at this time. Payne said officers weren’t getting much cooperation with the investigation.
