Williamsport woman turns 106

WILLIAMSPORT, Ind. (WLFI) – Monday was a special day for one Williamsport woman. Trudie Hamilton celebrated her 106th birthday with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren She has lived through two World Wars, the Great Depression and 18 US presidents.

Hamilton turned 106 on Sunday, an age she never expected to reach.

“I tell you. It made me feel old.” said Hamilton.

Parts of Hamilton’s family traveled from Illinois and Missouri to celebrate her 106th birthday. Family members said it’s special still having her around.

“It’s pretty amazing because not a lot of people would get to see their grandparents at that age. It’s pretty fun having a great-great-grandma,” said  Damian Phelps, Hamilton’s great-great-grandson.

“No matter what we did she loved us,” said Joyce Silver, Hamilton’s daughter. “She loved us no matter what.”

In March Hamilton moved to Williamsport Nursing and Rehabilitation after falling down. She had lived on her own for most of that time and has lived in Williamsport all of her life.

Silver said family members still relies on her to be that emotional rock.

“She’s lost several of her family sons in- laws… her daughter. She had a twin. I was a twin… and she’s gotten us through it all,” said Silver.

Hamilton credits faith for keep her around this long. 106 years has allowed her to experience many things, but Hamilton says she can’t believe it took this long to finally be on television.

“I was a little worried about it- about interviews and things because I’ve never been interviewed for anything,” said Hamilton. “Lived a hundred years. [This is] my first interview.”
