P.J. Thompson showing leadership on the court

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Purdue head basketball coach Matt Painter likes what he has seen freshman guard P.J. Thompson in summer workouts.

“P.J.’s the guy that can really really help us. Just understanding the game and being able to stress the defense. He’s also a guy that doesn’t get talked about a lot, but can really shoot the basketball, also,” says Painter.

Junior guard Rapheal Davis has been impressed by the freshman’s leadership on the court and has even asked him for pointers.

“P.J.’s been, he’s a freshman the first couple of weeks, but he’s been being a great leader. For not only the freshmen and sophomore’s and us upper classmen too,” says Davis. “Sometimes I might ask him a question, like in open gym, seeing if he saw something or something like that. So, I think he’s been great as a leader.”

Thompson is expected to compete with Bryson Scott for the starting point guard spot.
