Tipp. Co. Council approves $80K for coroner

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – The Tippecanoe County coroner has been granted the $80,000 she requested to help pay for additional expenses.

Coroner Donna Avolt said a significant increase in cases is behind the need for more money. She said they are about six weeks ahead on the number of deaths compared to last year. Drug overdoses is one of the reasons the county is seeing more deaths.

“Where these drugs are coming from I don’t know,” Avolt said. “I know that law enforcement is doing the very best they possibly can. We’re no longer a small insulated community. We grow and with that growth comes some problems that we really don’t want to have.”

Avolt said she hopes the additional money will last the rest of the year.
