LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — The Friends of Columbian Park Zoo is looking for volunteers for the 12th annual Zoo Run Run 5K run/walk. Cory Ahlersmeyer, a coordinator of the event, stopped by News 18 at Noon to talk about the volunteer opportunities.

There are currently 500 runners signed up to participate in the event, Ahlersmeyer said they are expecting a total of 1,000 runners, so they will need about 130 volunteers to provide a safe environment.

People are needed to work the water stations, be course marshals and manage barricades.

“It’s a nice fun environment. Everything’s fun at the zoo. Everything’s great there,” said Ahlersmeyer.

Volunteers have until Friday, July 18 to sign up, but Ahlersmeyer said they would like people to sign up as soon as possible.
