YWCA pool reopens after 5 years

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The YWCA is opening its pool for the first time in five years thanks to a $125,000 renovation project.

The pool officially opened last week, but Tuesday was the first day that campers and other members could swim in the pool.

The month-long project allowed the YWCA to renovate its gymnasium and indoor pool.

In 2009 the pool was closed due to budget cuts.

YWCA executive director Debbi DeBruyan said it took them five years to raise enough money to renovate and operate the pool.

“We knew once we reopened it, we were not going to go through what we unfortunately had to do five years ago and close it again. We really took our time and raised enough money and here we are,” said DeBruyan.

The pool will be open during the following hours:

Monday through Friday 6 a.m to 9 p.m.

Saturday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Sunday noon – 5 p.m.

DeBruyan said the pool will also be used for therapeutic activities with their women’s cancer patients.
