LPD hires new lieutenant to replace Davidson

Lafayette Police Lt. Joseph Clyde

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The Lafayette Police Civil Service Commission selected a new lieutenant to replace Tom Davidson Wednesday evening.

As News 18 previously reported, Davidson was demoted after pushing a man in a wheelchair last October. The commission selected Sergeant Joseph Clyde after three hours of interviews and deliberations.

Clyde is a 16 year veteran of the department, with five years of experience as detective, and with the rank of sergeant for the last year and a half. He says it’s an honor to be selected from so many other qualified applicants.

“Many of these sergeants have and officers I work with they’ve helped train me,” said Clyde. “I’m with people here that have helped me along my way and went out of their way to help,” said Clyde.

The commission will be hiring a captain position and another lieutenant next month.
