LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A lunch-hour outreach program teaches parents and adults about the mental health of teens and adolescents.
More than 40 people came out to Mental Health America’s Brown Bag Forum Series. Wednesday’s discussion covered anxiety and the effects of trauma. It was the first of three seminars covering adolescent mental disorders.
Mental Health America’s Marketing and Education Director Michael Oxenrider says the average age of adolescent anxiety is 11 years old. He said it’s important to reach out to teens early.
“We have a lot of problems in our society with anxiety, anxity spectrum and it’s important to reach people early with it,” said Oxenrider.
The brown bag forum is held on the second Wednesday of every month. Next month’s topic will discuss symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in teens.
